Remedial Massage and Sports Massage involve relaxing massage techniques and deeper muscular friction together with examination of range of movement, isometric testing of muscle groups and advice for self mobilising and conditioning exercises. It can be used in the treatment of any muscular-skeletal conditions.
The many benefits of remedial massage include improved circulation (blood and Iymph), reduced swelling (odema), relaxation of tight muscles, toning loose muscles, relieving stress, relieving pain and inducing a sense of well-being.
Specific conditions that can be treated with remedial massage include: insomnia, sprains and strains, lower back pain, sciatica, “frozen shoulder”, tennis and golfers elbow, shin splints, stiff neck, stress and tension.
Massage can also be used to alleviate the pain from arthritis and rheumatism. Remedial massage can also be used to keep the diabetic healthy and to offer pain relief and encourage healing in post operative situations and after bone fractures. Recovery after a stroke can be assisted with regular massage treatments.
If you are seeking relief from a specific problem, your first remedial massage session would include a consultation and examination to ascertain the suitability of this treatment. Successive visits will consist of massage and possibly exercises.
Advice will be given on patient after care and a course of self help exercises and movements to further promote recovery between treatments may be suggested.
