Aromatherapy combines the healing properties of essential oils with the therapeutic value of massage in a complete body treatment.
Essential oils are extracted from various parts of plants, flowers, leaves and stems, wood, roots or fruits. There are several methods used to obtain the oil, the most common method being stem distillation.
Essential oils have many properties. They can be antiseptic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, anti fungal and they can aid the renewal of cells. These oils act on both physical and emotional levels to restore a state of balance. It is not a new form of treatment - essential oils have been used for their therapeutic properties for thousands of years.
Regular aromatherapy treatments can help with everyday problems such as stress, anxiety, fatigue, muscular aches and pains, nervous tension and headaches, asthma and fluid retention, etc.
One of the best ways to experience the way in which essential oils are used is to have an aromatherapy massage. During the first treatment a medical history will be taken. The aromatherapist will then blend one or more essential oils, together with a carrier oil, choosing each carefully to suit the needs of the individual.
